Victory would like to spotlight two of our members who have dedicated their lives to serving at Victory. We appreciate them and love them dearly.
Helen Rener
Came to California in 1942 from Waco, Texas. She is the mother of one child and the wife of Ernest Rener for 66 years. She worked for the Diagnostic School for Neurologically Handicapped Children for 27 years. She started as an attendant and was able to work her way up to a counselor.
She is one of our charter members of the church and has been a member for 27 years. Ms. Rener spends her free time reading the Bible and working word puzzles. She enjoys reading about history, loves basketball, and her favorite color is blue. One of her memorable moments was being on the front page of the LA Times in 1995. The article talked about her cooking Thanksgiving dinners for the homeless. Ms. Rener is most proud of her 4 grandchildren and 8 great grans and 1 great great gran! She currently serves in the Outreach and Missions ministry.
When asked how Ms. Rener would like for people to remember her, and she said ‘as a blessing to their lives’.
Verleana Dixon
Was born 1922 in Shivers, Mississippi. She is the only girl of six children. She came to California in 1964 and was married to John Walker for 12 years. She spends her free time gardening, cleaning, cooking, and reading. Her favorite song is “Precious Lord” and she enjoys basketball.
She is most proud of being successful in her many accomplishments: working thru High School and College; graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Health & Safety with a minor in Childhood Development; studying Drug Diversion Counseling; becoming a Certified Nurse’s Assistant; and studying Crisis Intervention counseling. Ms Dixon has been a foster parent to over 100 children and teens and is currently still helping to raise children. She currently serves on the Usher ministry.
When asked how Ms. Dixon would like for people to remember her, she responded ‘as a positive person, someone who has compassion for people’.
